Why do I like this shot? It is not a very strong composition. The light isn’t particularly interesting. Worse, it is shot through a wired fence…and yet that is what makes it special. The white-tailed deer was not within a fenced enclosure-I WAS. I had just entered through the gates of a nature park when I looked back and saw two deer chasing each other at top speed and playing with total abandon in the apple orchard–on the other side of the fence. So, while I was only free to walk the paths inside the park, they were out in the wild running and leaping. It somehow felt right to me.
