Happy World Rhino Day!  This was a remarkable moment with my first close encounter with a large male white rhino. He and his hommies were hanging by the side of the road grazing when this 5,000lb lad wandered directly towards me at the back of the jeep. he came within 6-8 feet, kind of sniffed my boot up on the rail, looked at me and then wandered away. I am surprised I was able to send a signal to my finger to push the shutter.

I have been very lucky to have spent so much time around wild elephants, and to have been so close to them. They have a sensitivity that is so evident. One of my favorite things to shoot in the wild are the eyes of animals, and elephants, with their long lashes, deep textured hides and pensive expressions, are one of my absolute favorite subjects. This guy was shot in Botswana’s Okavango Delta.
