Fishin’   (give them a clcik-the fishie is small!)

Lying on my stomach at the marsh early yesterday AM I spotted this little green heron under a fallen log, clinging to a branch. He was fishing. (More on that later) What I was struck by shooting from this angle was the way the claws were reflecting off the marsh-the third set of talons almost look like they are reaching out of the water.

I was startled yesterday when a great blue heron lifted straight up out of the tall reeds next to me and flew off with his dinner. I was able to swing the camera down fast enough to get off one shot, and this was it. Pretty lucky to capture the enormous wingspan of this sensational bird with his considerable fresh catch of the day. (As always, click for larger image.)
