The strawberry poison dart frog (also called the blue-jeans) is the coolest little dude I have ever seen. I loved trying to track them down and got pretty muddy capturing this shot. He was about the size of Tylenol - but with teenie-tiny legs. So, not exactly a large subject to find in the jungle, but that colour sure helps! (Hand held with a 100m macro, f4, 1/250 ISO 6400, kneeling in mud.)
More about hyraxes…
By the way, the suborder Afrotheria also includes tenrecs, golden moles, ardvarks, and elephant shrews.
The African tree hyrax is part of the group of animals known as Afrotheria., which also includes, amongst a few others, elephants. The elephant and the hyrax are thought to have descended from a common ancestor and some research indicates they are more closely related than any other group of animals-although the sea cow enters in there somehow. I love freaky little nature tricks.
Nothing says Happy St Patty’s Day like a little green bee-eater…except maybe a little bee-eater having a bird-bath in a pint of Guinness. Missed that shot.
Slainte!
