Woot! He opened his eyes today. (Likey just trying to determine if it was the same annoying person pressed up against his tree snapping twigs and crunching snow during his nap time. No appreciation whatsoever for how sore my neck gets looking up and  waiting for just a wink or a nod.)

Hello down there!

Hello down there!

After returning to the woods all week with no luck finding little screech, early this Christmas morning as the snow gently fell, he sat quietly waiting for me up on his balcony. No better Christmas gift could I have received.
Merry Christmas to all and may you be blessed with small wonders.

For those of you who marveled at little screech’s disguise…here are some different angles. His ability to blend into both the colour but also the textures and patterns of the tree bark are simply astonishing. I love nature. Click to enlarge for great detail.

Young Screech has a pretty good disguise, wouldn’t you say? His belly actually looks like part of the tree.

Screech owl-the holy grail of the winter woods. What a gorgeous bird and what a lucky, lucky day. Yesterday I waited an hour for him (i think) to open his eyes. I finally got a wink and a nod. Be prepared to be “screeched” at in the coming days.
