One very fast spider. The photo is technically bad in so many ways…but it still made me jump when it flashed across my screen.

Is this anyway to treat the launch of GWEW? Seriously people-did you click and look at these pictures?  It is an oriole missile sighting. Do I need to pshop in a cat in a cup…?

I get so moody when you people aren’t as excited as I am about something. And you know how cranky i can get…

njwight:

To kick off Great White Egret Week (GWEW) a crazy oriole vs egret sequence! (By crazy I mean lucky) I was trying to swing up quickly enough to shoot this great white egret in flight. The oriole that was harassing him flew in and out of frame so fast I didn’t realize I captured him. He looks like a little missile in the second frame. (Click to expand-much better!)

Small Wonders

Somedays I would go into the woods hoping to see a spectacle of marsh birds only to find the trails almost silent. At first this was a disappointment, but now when the obvious doesn’t present itself I find I am far more attentive to the small wonders. They take some serious searching for at times, and then, like the dragon flies, are not always easy to capture. But there is something very cool about seeing these little wonders close up. I have renewed respect for their world after observing so many coming and goings.
